Our Technology

Hydrogen is stored chemically using the steam-iron process. Excess energy from renewable sources is used to produce hydrogen. This hydrogen reacts with iron oxide in the storage tank, forming elemental iron and water. When discharging, the process is reversed so that the hydrogen can be recovered when energy is required. This technology allows hydrogen to be stored cost-effectively over long periods of time.

01.
Hydrogen Production

Overproduction from renewable energy sources in summer is used to produce hydrogen.

02.
Charging

The generated hydrogen is fed into the storage tank and reacts with iron oxide to produce elemental iron and water.

03.
Storage

Hydrogen can be stored chemically with a very high energy density and without losses over a long period of time.

04.
Discharging

When energy is required, water vapor is fed into the system which reacts with the iron to form hydrogen and iron oxide.

05.
Further Use

The hydrogen obtained through discharging is converted back into electricity or heat using fuel cells or turbines.
